The book consists of comprehensive tables providing <strong data-start=\"743\" data-end=\"770\">altitude and azimuth data<\/strong> for celestial bodies over a wide range of latitudes (39\u00b0-89\u00b0) and for declinations from 0\u00b0-29\u00b0. These tables are used to reduce astronomical observations &#8211; that is, to convert observations of the sun, moon, planets and stars to positions on the earth&#8217;s surface using sextant and sea almanac.  <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1115\" data-end=\"1410\">It is published as part of <strong data-start=\"1140\" data-end=\"1156\">Pub. No. 249<\/strong> (and corresponding UK publication AP 3270\/NP 303) and is a permanent tabular volume covering most latitudes in northern areas.
