    Description

The Planispheric Astrolabe is a modern reproduction of one of history’s most fascinating scientific instruments. Used by astronomers, navigators and explorers for hundreds of years, the astrolabe served as a star chart, timekeeper and navigational aid based on celestial observations.

Inspired by the beautiful instruments of the Renaissance, this model is designed for modern star positions and can be used until the year 2046. The Astrolabe comes as a kit with precision die-cut parts in gold-colored cardboard, including classic components such as the mother, rete, rule, alidade and several tympans adapted to different latitudes in the northern hemisphere.

The included tympanums cover latitudes 30°, 36°, 42°, 49°, 52° and 56° north, making the instrument relevant for use in parts of the Nordic region and northern Europe. Once assembled, you get a fully functional astrolabe with a diameter of approx. 21 cm.

The set also includes a comprehensive 21-page booklet explaining the history, construction and practical use of the instrument. By assembling it, you not only get a decorative and historical instrument, but also a unique introduction to classic astronomical and navigation techniques.

The Planispheric Astrolabe is perfect for enthusiasts of astronomy, historical navigation, maritime traditions and the history of science, as well as being an exciting addition to modern sextant and astronavigation equipment.
