Frequently Asked Questions about “Custom Map”
No, you do not need to install anything.
Our maps are highly detailed. Unfortunately, current mobile phones and tablets cannot display maps larger than 30 x 30 cm. We want you to be able to see the map as it will appear before you order it.
The map we print will have a higher resolution and thus be sharper and clearer than the map you see on your screen. However, details, symbols, and place names will be the same. The colors you see will vary slightly from screen to screen. Therefore, the colors on the map we print may differ somewhat from what you see on your screen.
The largest map you can create yourself in our map generator is 120 x 180 cm. If you have a large wall space and want a larger map, a tip might be to create two maps in portrait format to hang side by side. We can create maps of all sizes. Please contact us if you want a larger map or a map in a special format, and we can set this up manually for you.
Yes, all maps can be ordered pre-framed. Choose poster paper or fine art paper in the order form. You will then be able to select a frame and glass for your map.
If you want a larger excerpt but wish to maintain the same map size, choose a lower level of detail. If you want to maintain the level of detail (scale), you must choose a larger map size.
To see building outlines on the map, you must have a scale of 1:10,000 or smaller. Use detail levels 9, 10, or 11.
Which place names / street names are displayed on the map depends on the level of detail you have chosen. Try changing the level of detail to see if the name you want appears.
The map you create in our map generator is made with map data from Kartverket, Geodata, and Esri (world maps). The map should be as accurate as pre-produced maps, such as maps from Kartverket. When you create the map yourself, it will be made with completely fresh map data. The map will therefore be more up-to-date than pre-produced maps.
We print all our maps with pigment ink with a documented durability of 100 – 400 years.
Norgeskart.no is a free service from Kartverket that allows you to download a PDF of a map section. Unfortunately, this service cannot generate map files larger than A3 (29.7 x 42 cm). We therefore recommend that you use our service if you wish to order a map print.
Frequently Asked Questions About Nautical Charts
Nautical charts (print-on-demand) are official navigation charts published by Kartverket. All vessels 8 meters or longer are required to have updated paper charts for a planned trip. The paper chart then serves as a backup solution in addition to electronic navigation equipment. Many recreational boaters like to have Kartverket’s nautical charts available on board. However, Kartverket’s nautical charts require some space, as they are delivered rolled.
“Print on demand” means that the map is produced only after an order has been received. This ensures that you always receive an updated map.
Kartverket updates charts where changes have been made once a week.
On the nautical chart from Kartverket, you will find a version number and update date. Note that nautical charts mounted on a board and nautical charts ordered framed will not have this marking, as these maps are not intended for navigation purposes.
You can order a custom nautical chart and determine the section and level of detail yourself in our map generator. This map can be made in sizes up to 120 x 180 cm. Please note that the maps you create yourself are not intended for navigation purposes.
Delivery time for Kartverket’s nautical charts (print-on-demand) is 1 – 3 working days. If you need the map quickly, you can order express delivery. We will then print the map immediately after the order is received.
Frequently Asked Questions about Hiking Maps
Our map catalog contains map publications from all producers of Norwegian nautical and terrestrial maps. If you cannot find the map title you are looking for, it probably means that this map has gone out of production. In recent years, some hiking maps have been phased out. Most of these have been replaced with other maps covering the same area. Use the map searches from Nordic Maps and Calazo to look for alternative maps. If you find a map elsewhere that is not available on our pages, please let us know!
Nordeca changed its name to Nordic Maps in 2023, but apart from the name change, the maps are identical.
Nordic Maps is a Norwegian map producer that publishes Norwegian and Swedish maps. Calazo is a Swedish map producer, who also publishes maps of Norway. The two producers largely use the same map data when creating maps, but Calazo also uses satellite photos of Norway, which, according to the producer, provides more accurate maps.
A standard hiking map normally has a scale of 1:25,000. Some maps have a smaller scale, and thus more details. In our map generator, you can create maps with a scale down to 1:2,000, which provides an extremely detailed map.
This varies greatly. The most popular map series are usually updated every 2nd or 3rd year, while other maps are updated less frequently. If you order a “Custom Map”, the map will always be up-to-date.

Frequently Asked Questions about Shipping and Delivery
Once you have sent us your order, we will set up this map in our system as quickly as possible and produce a high-resolution map file. This is a manual process where we also quality assure each individual map before printing. Delivery time will therefore vary somewhat depending on the demand for our service. Our goal, however, is that maps should be produced no later than three working days after the order is received. If you order a map on an aluminum plate or a pre-framed map, you must expect a slightly longer delivery time.
