Description
The Cargo Stowage & Securing (CSS) Code, 2021 Edition is the official edition of the IMO’s international code for the safe stowage and securing of cargo at sea. Developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the publication is used by maritime operators, shipping companies, ship officers and terminal personnel around the world.
The purpose of the CSS Code is to reduce the risk of accidents, damage to cargo, loss of cargo and stability problems that can occur if cargo is not properly stowed or secured on board. Secure cargo securing is crucial for vessel stability, crew safety and safe transportation in demanding sea conditions.
The publication contains detailed guidelines on how different types of cargo should be stowed and secured during transportation. The regulations include the use of securing equipment, calculation of loads, stowage procedures and assessment of risks associated with different types of cargo and weather conditions.
CSS Code is used daily by ship officers and personnel involved in the planning and execution of cargo operations. The publication is particularly relevant for container transport, project cargo, heavy lifting, vehicle transport and other maritime cargo where correct securing is essential for safe operation.
The 2021 edition contains updated recommendations and guidelines from IMO related to modern cargo operations and international maritime practice. The publication serves both as a practical work tool on board and as important reference literature in maritime training and safety work.
The CSS Code is a key tool for companies that want to ensure compliance with international requirements for cargo securing and safe maritime transport.
