Description
SPS & IP Codes, 2024 Edition is the official IMO publication that combines the Special Purpose Ships (SPS) Code and the Intact Stability (IS) Code. Developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the publication sets out international requirements for the safety, stability and operation of special purpose vessels.
The SPS Code applies to vessels that carry out specialized maritime operations and often transport large numbers of specialized personnel on board. This includes research vessels, offshore vessels, cable-laying vessels, construction vessels and other specialized vessels with advanced operations at sea. The regulations help to ensure safe operations, an adequate level of safety and the protection of personnel on board.
The publication also contains the Intact Stability (IS) Code, which describes international requirements for vessel stability under normal operating conditions. The code includes criteria for stability, loading conditions, design requirements and assessment of vessel behavior under various operational conditions.
SPS & IP Codes are used by marine engineers, classification societies, shipyards, maritime authorities and technical departments in shipping companies working with special vessels and stability calculations. The publication is central to new construction, certification, refurbishments and operations.
The 2024 edition contains updated requirements and revisions adopted by the IMO to reflect modern maritime operations, technological developments and international safety standards. The regulations serve as both a technical reference and a practical working tool in maritime design and compliance.
The publication is particularly relevant for the offshore industry, research environments and other maritime businesses where specialized vessels and vessel stability play a crucial role in safe operations.
