How to Create Your Own Map

SELECT LOCATION: Enter a place name or address. This location will then become the center point of the map. You can change the position of this location at any time by moving the map in the desired direction. Click the symbol in the upper left corner to rotate the map.

SELECT MAP STYLE: Choose between classic topographical maps with terrain data and hiking trails, nautical charts with depth and marine markers, or timeless design maps. If you want a map from a location outside Norway, you must use the City Map or Antique styles.

SELECT DETAIL LEVEL: When you open the map designer, the detail level is set to 9 (scale 1:10,000). This provides a detailed map where you can also see the outline of buildings, such as your own cabin. Choose a lower detail level or a larger map if you want a map that covers a larger area.

SELECT SIZE: The wall space often dictates how large a map you can have. Remember that the size determines how large a geographical area you include. If you want to display a larger area without increasing the map size, you can go back one step and change to a lower detail level.
When you increase the size of the map, the details will become harder to see on the screen. However, you can at any time press the “Download preview of map” button. The image file you download will show the map with place names and details that will appear on the final print. If you are missing a place name, you can try changing the detail level to see if the name becomes visible.

SELECT MATERIAL: The most affordable option is to order the map on poster paper. If you plan to use the map outdoors, we recommend choosing water- and tear-resistant Tyvek paper. If the map is to be framed, it will look best on art paper. You can also order the map on an aluminum plate.

SELECT FRAMING: We have our own framing workshop and can frame all maps printed on poster paper or art paper. Choose between oak, walnut, white, black, or natural-colored frames. You can also choose a frame with a white passe-partout. The passe-partout extends beyond the map itself, making the frame larger.

SELECT GLASS: Maps of all sizes can be framed with exclusive art glass. This protects against sunlight and fading, and provides minimal reflections. You can also choose a more durable plexiglass. Remember that having a frame on the map without glass can also be a good solution. Frames with passe-partout can only be ordered with art glass.
8.
DOWNLOAD PREVIEW: Before adding the map to your shopping cart, it is important to download a preview. The file you download shows the map with the detail level and place names that will appear on the print.
9.
SEND ORDER: Once the map is added to the shopping cart, it is no longer possible to view the map you are ordering. However, all the details we need to create the final map are stored with us.
