Description
Cassens & Plath Prism Level – Black is a retrofit prism level designed for use with Cassens & Plath sextants with full-view mirror. The accessory helps the user to see if the sextant is held in the correct vertical position during observation. When the instrument is tilted, the horizon line seen through the prism will shift relative to the true horizon, allowing errors to be detected and corrected.
The manufacturer describes the solution as a glass prism for retrofitting, and in the product overview it is referred to as a prism level for self-assembly with a similar function to a Schüler double-prism. This makes the product a useful upgrade option for navigators who want better control of tilt errors in astronomical navigation.
