The Celestaire Extra Whole Horizon Mirror is a spare mirror for Astra sextants used for astronomical navigation. The mirror is a Whole Horizon mirror and fits models such as Celestaire Astra IIIB and Astra III Professional.
When navigating with a sextant, the horizon mirror is an important optical component. In a maritime environment, mirrors can be affected by salt, moisture and wear over time, and it may therefore be necessary to replace the mirror to maintain good optical quality and precision in the instrument.
This spare mirror makes it easy to replace a worn or damaged mirror on the sextant. The mirror comes pre-assembled in a frame and can be replaced quickly using the fixing screws on the instrument.
Whole Horizon Mirror means that the entire mirror reflects the horizon. This solution often makes it easier to see the horizon clearly during observations and is therefore often used in training and courses in astro-navigation. Many navigators choose this type of mirror because it provides a clear and easily visible image of the horizon during measurements.
The mirror can also be used if you want to convert a sextant from a traditional Split Horizon mirror to a Whole Horizon mirror.
