Description
IAMSAR Manual Volume III (Mobile Facilities) is the operational part of the international IAMSAR manual developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The manual is designed for use on board vessels, aircraft and other mobile units participating in search and rescue operations at sea.
The publication serves as a practical working tool during SAR operations. It provides operational procedures and guidance on how on-scene units should plan, conduct and coordinate search and rescue when people are in distress at sea or following aviation accidents.
The manual describes, among other things, how searches are organized and how communication and coordination take place between rescue units. It also provides guidance on the role of On-Scene Coordinator, cooperation between vessels and aircraft, as well as handling emergencies and medical incidents during rescue operations.
IAMSAR Manual Volume III is developed for use directly in operational service. Therefore, the content is structured so that it can be quickly used in an ongoing rescue situation. The manual is a key reference work for ship’s officers, SAR personnel, rescue coordination centres and aviation operators.
The IAMSAR manual is normally updated every three years to reflect new experience, procedures and international requirements for search and rescue services. For organizations and vessels participating in SAR operations, it is important to have the latest edition available on board.
The IAMSAR series consists of Volume I (Organization and Management), Volume II (Mission Coordination) and Volume III (Mobile Facilities), as well as IAMSAR Action Cards.
