Pilot Chart Atlas – Indian Ocean is a specialized atlas that provides a statistical overview of climatic and oceanographic conditions in the Indian Ocean. The atlas is based on long-term observations and shows probable wind directions, currents, wave conditions, storm frequency and other seasonal conditions that are important when planning ocean voyages. Pilot charts are traditionally used by commercial shipping and long-distance sailors as a supplement to ordinary nautical charts, especially in connection with route selection and assessment of optimal sailing periods.
