    Description

This is a classic and recognized reference work of astronavigation tables, originally developed for aviation, but also widely used in maritime navigation. The book contains comprehensive sight reduction tables covering latitudes from the equator to 40° and declinations from 0° to 29°, and is used to reduce astronomical observations using the sextant and nautical almanac.

The tables make it possible to calculate the altitude and azimuth of the sun, moon, planets and stars, and thus determine position on the earth’s surface without the use of electronic aids. This makes the book particularly useful for sailors and navigators who want a robust and independent method of position determination, either as primary navigation or as a backup to GPS.

This volume is Volume 2 in the Pub. No. 249 series, covering low and middle latitudes. Together with Volume 3 (39°-89°), the series provides full coverage for almost all practical sailing areas. The book is also used in teaching and training in classical navigation and astronavigation.
