The Celestaire Extra Split Horizon Mirror is a spare mirror for Astra sextants used for astronomical navigation. The mirror is a traditional split horizon mirror and fits models such as Celestaire Astra IIIB and Astra III Professional.
When navigating with a sextant, the horizon mirror is an important optical component. In a maritime environment, mirrors can be affected by moisture, salt and wear over time, and it may therefore be necessary to replace the mirror to maintain optimal optical quality and precision in the instrument.
This spare mirror makes it easy to replace a worn or damaged mirror on the sextant. The mirror comes pre-assembled in a frame and can be replaced quickly using the fixing screws on the instrument.
Split Horizon Mirror is the traditional mirror solution used on most classic sextants. One half of the mirror is reflective, while the other half is clear glass so that the horizon is seen directly through the mirror. Many experienced navigators prefer this solution because it provides a natural and precise image of the horizon during observations.
The mirror can also be used if you want to convert a sextant from a Whole Horizon mirror to a traditional Split Horizon mirror.
