Description
IGF Code, 2026 Edition is the official edition of the International Code of Safety for Ships using Gases or other Low-flashpoint Fuels developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The publication sets out international safety requirements for ships using gases or other low-flashpoint fuels as bunkers.
The regulations have been developed to ensure the safe use of alternative fuels at sea and reduce the risk of fire, explosion and technical faults when handling new energy sources on board. The IGF Code is an important part of the development towards more environmentally friendly and sustainable shipping.
The publication contains detailed requirements for vessel design, fuel systems, tank arrangements, ventilation, safety systems, monitoring, fire protection and operational procedures. The regulations also include requirements for training, risk assessment and emergency procedures for vessels using alternative fuels.
The IGF Code is used by shipping companies, ship engineers, shipyards, classification societies and maritime authorities working with modern propulsion systems and low-emission vessels. The regulations are particularly relevant for LNG-powered ships and other vessels that use alternative fuel solutions.
The 2026 edition contains updated requirements and revisions adopted by the IMO to reflect technological developments and the increasing use of alternative energy sources in international shipping. The publication serves as both a technical reference and a practical tool for the design, construction and operation of modern vessels.
The IGF Code is an important tool for companies that want to ensure compliance with international safety and environmental requirements related to alternative marine fuels.
