Description
Maps for the Roman frontier through Northern England.
Hadrian’s Wall Path follows the line of the old Roman frontier between the Solway coast and the Newcastle area. The map booklet covers the roughly 135-kilometre main route from Bowness-on-Solway to Wallsend. The route combines historic sites with open landscapes and towns, and the maps provide a continuous overview of how the sections along the wall connect.
Detailed maps and an additional coastal connection.
Ordnance Survey maps at a scale of 1:25,000 show the entire main route and can be used in either walking direction. The booklet also includes an extension through Newcastle to South Shields. This provides a useful overview if you want to follow the route all the way to the east coast, or adapt the start and end points to your own travel plans and transport options.
A map booklet rather than a complete guidebook.
This product’s main content is detailed map coverage. For more extensive route descriptions and planning material, a separate Cicerone guide to Hadrian’s Wall Path is available. The maps show the course of the path and well-known sites in the area, but opening hours, accommodation, and current transport options should also be checked when planning the stages of your trip.
For the entire path or selected historic sections.
The booklet is also useful if you only want to walk some of the stretches with clear remains of the wall and Roman structures. Some sections are hillier than the landscape might suggest, and the weather affects the experience. Combine the maps with realistic daily plans and time at the sites, so the trip allows room for both walking and history along the way.
A long tradition of hiking guides.
Cicerone has published guidebooks since 1969. The publisher emerged among climbers and mountaineers who wanted to share thorough knowledge of their routes – a tradition that still characterizes these compact books for walking, trekking, and other outdoor experiences.
