    Description

This is a thematic overview map of Europe’s most important pilgrimage routes and long-distance walking routes. The map covers the European continent and shows the classic Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela, including routes on the Iberian Peninsula and newer routes in Central and Eastern Europe.

In addition, the map shows the Via Francigena, the historic pilgrimage route between northern and southern Europe that ends in Rome, as well as an extensive network of Marian pilgrimage routes that extend through parts of western and southeastern Europe. The map thus provides a comprehensive overview of several of Europe’s most important religious and historical walking routes.

Developed as a Weitwanderkarte, the map is suitable for planning, study and overview, rather than detailed navigation of the terrain. An accompanying information booklet provides descriptions of the pilgrimage routes and includes an overview of some of the world’s most famous pilgrimage routes. The information booklet is in German.

The map is multilingual and can be used regardless of language, as it is mainly based on symbols, grids and place names.

The map was published in 2015 by freytag & berndt, printed in Austria, and is supplied as a two-sided, foldable map at a scale of approximately 1:2,000,000 to 1:3,500,000.
