    Exceptional warmth for demanding winter conditions

    Grüezi Bag DownWool-Hybrid Ice Extreme is a technical winter sleeping bag designed for cold-weather trekking, bivouacs and expeditions. It combines high insulation performance with relatively low weight and manageable pack size, making it suitable for conditions where a conventional three- or four-season sleeping bag no longer provides sufficient temperature margin.

    With a comfort temperature of −8 °C and a limit temperature of −15 °C, Ice Extreme is designed for serious winter use. Grüezi Bag also gives a practical recommended operating range of −25 to 0 °C, based on its own testing and experience with the sleeping bag.

    Ice Extreme combines 800+ cuin goose down with an additional layer of temperature- and moisture-regulating wool. It also features an integrated carbon heating element in the footbox, which can be connected to a standard power bank to provide additional warmth when needed.

    800+ cuin goose down and wool – hybrid insulation for winter use

    The main insulation consists of high-quality 90/10 goose down with a fill power of at least 800+ cuin. Down provides exceptional insulation in relation to its weight and compresses to a relatively small volume – two important advantages when carrying a highly insulated sleeping bag over longer distances.

    Above the down insulation is an additional layer of lavalan® AlmWolle. The wool helps regulate temperature and moisture inside the sleeping bag and complements the insulating properties of the down.

    This becomes particularly relevant on longer winter trips. Your body releases moisture throughout the night, and repeated nights in cold conditions can be demanding on pure down insulation. The wool layer helps create a more stable and comfortable microclimate as temperature and humidity change.

    For cold winter nights and expeditions

    DownWool-Hybrid Ice Extreme is tested according to EN ISO 23537-1 with a T Comfort of −8 °C, T Limit of −15 °C and T Extreme of −37 °C.

    Grüezi Bag notes that standardised laboratory testing has limitations when applied to very warm winter and expedition sleeping bags. The manufacturer therefore also provides a practical recommended operating range of −25 to 0 °C, based on its own practical testing.

    −25 °C is not the sleeping bag’s standardised comfort temperature. For normal comparison between sleeping bags, the T Comfort rating of −8 °C remains the most important standardised reference. Grüezi Bag’s recommendation down to −25 °C should be considered in relation to conditions, equipment and the experience of the user.

    Perceived warmth in winter is also affected by factors such as your sleeping mat, clothing, wind, humidity, food intake, fatigue and individual sensitivity to cold. When travelling in very low temperatures, always allow an additional safety margin.

    Integrated carbon heating element in the footbox

    One of the most distinctive features of Ice Extreme is the integrated carbon heating element in the foot area. It connects to a standard power bank and allows additional heat to be generated around the feet when required.

    The heating element can reach a maximum temperature of approximately 40 °C within around 15 minutes. This can be particularly useful when you enter the sleeping bag cold or have difficulty warming your feet after a long day outdoors.

    The sleeping bag is not designed to depend on continuous electrical heating. Ice Extreme is a highly insulated winter sleeping bag in its own right, while the heating element provides additional warmth when needed.

    Advanced construction to minimise cold spots

    Ice Extreme uses an advanced chamber construction designed to keep the insulation in position and reduce areas where heat can escape. The construction combines H-chambers, V-shaped chambers, sidewalls and the additional wool layer on the upper side.

    The sidewall construction creates a more continuous insulating structure around the body and helps reduce cold spots along the sides of the sleeping bag.

    The elaborately pre-shaped footbox uses multiple chambers to provide even insulation while also leaving plenty of room for your toes. This helps prevent the insulation from being compressed around the feet – one of the areas where many people begin to feel cold first.

    3D thermal collar and adjustable hood

    A 3D thermal collar around the neck and shoulders helps retain warm air inside the sleeping bag. The collar is also designed to close around the zip area, helping to reduce heat loss through a common cold spot.

    The adjustable hood features Grüezi Bag’s Face Baffle, which follows the shape of the head. In very cold conditions, the opening can be drawn closely around the face to minimise exposed skin and reduce heat loss.

    The thermal collar drawcords can be stored in a dedicated pocket so that they do not remain loose around your face during the night.

    Zip designed for winter use

    The two-way zip can be operated from either end and from both inside and outside the sleeping bag. Auto-Lock helps prevent the zip from opening unintentionally during the night.

    An insulated zip baffle reduces heat loss along the zip, while anti-snag protection and robust webbing help prevent the lightweight outer fabric from becoming caught.

    The white zip is also easier to locate and operate in the dark.

    Anti-slip underside

    Ice Extreme features anti-slip elements on the underside to help keep the sleeping bag in position on your sleeping mat throughout the night.

    This can be particularly useful during winter camping, where thick sleeping mats and smooth tent floors can otherwise cause the sleeping bag to gradually slide out of position.

    Choose the right size

    DownWool-Hybrid Ice Extreme is available in 180, 190 Wide and 200 Wide. The two larger sizes also provide additional width, giving taller users not only more length but also a roomier fit.

    180 is designed for body heights up to 180 cm. 190 Wide is suitable for body heights up to 190 cm and provides additional room around the body, while 200 Wide is the largest and roomiest version for body heights up to 200 cm.

    Choosing the right size is particularly important in a winter sleeping bag. An unnecessarily large sleeping bag contains more air for your body to warm, while a bag that is too short or tight can compress the insulation and reduce both warmth and sleeping comfort.

    Low weight for its level of insulation

    Despite its high insulation performance, Ice Extreme weighs approximately 1.4 kg in size 180. This version contains around 813 g of goose down and has a compressed pack volume of approximately 11 litres.

    190 Wide weighs approximately 1.55 kg and contains around 963 g of down, while 200 Wide weighs approximately 1.75 kg and contains around 1,090 g of down.

    Ice Extreme is therefore particularly interesting for winter trips where high insulation performance, relatively low weight and manageable pack volume need to be balanced against one another.

    Materials and insulation

    The outer and inner fabrics are made from recycled 20D 380T nylon. The material is lightweight and breathable while also being wind- and water-resistant.

    The main insulation consists of 90/10 goose down with a fill power of at least 800+ cuin. An additional layer of lavalan® AlmWolle is positioned on the upper side and consists of 85% wool and 15% PLA (Ingeo™), with a fill weight of 60 g/m².

    This combination provides the low weight, high insulation performance and compressibility of down together with wool’s natural temperature- and moisture-regulating properties.
