The International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) establishes international standards for the competence and qualifications of seafarers.
This official 2026 edition brings together the STCW Convention and the accompanying STCW Code in one publication. It is a practical reference for understanding the requirements that apply to seafarer training, certification and watchkeeping.
The STCW Code contains two parts. Part A sets out mandatory standards, while Part B provides recommended guidance to support the implementation of the Convention.
The publication is relevant to shipping companies, maritime administrations, training institutions, instructors, masters and officers who work with STCW requirements.
This edition replaces the 2017 edition.
