Description
SOLAS Checklist – Life-Saving Appliances (LSA) & Fire-Fighting Equipment (FFE), 3rd Edition by I.C. Brindle is designed for recording and documenting weekly and monthly inspections of life-saving appliances and fire-fighting equipment on board.
The checklist has been prepared with reference to the inspection requirements of SOLAS Chapter II-2 Regulation 14.2.2.1 and SOLAS Chapter III Regulations 20.6 and 20.7, together with relevant IMO Maritime Safety Committee circulars, including MSC.1/Circ.1206 and MSC.1/Circ.1432.
Weekly and monthly inspections
The checklist covers the required weekly and monthly inspections over a 12-month period. It also provides space to record any defects found and when they were rectified.
Weekly inspections cover lifeboats, rescue boats, liferafts, MOR, fire control panels, ship’s whistle, PA system and general alarm, BA and EEBD cylinders, low location lighting and fixed water systems.
Monthly inspections cover emergency lighting; lifeboats and equipment; rescue boats and equipment; liferafts; MOR; lifejackets; immersion and anti-exposure suits; EPIRBs, SARTs and hand-held GMDSS radios; pyrotechnics and line-throwing apparatus; lifebuoys and attachments; MOB recovery equipment; fire mains, pumps, hydrants, hoses and nozzles; fixed extinguishing systems; firefighters’ outfits and BA; BA charging compressors; portable foam units; and fire extinguishers.
Adaptable to individual vessels
The checklist is suitable for different types of vessel and can be customised to reflect the equipment carried on a particular vessel, for example by inserting duplicate or additional pages where required. Inspection items are cross-referenced to the relevant SOLAS paragraphs and IMO documents as appropriate.
It is supplied in an A4 loose-leaf binder in landscape format, allowing easy completion and the addition of other vessel-specific documentation where required.
