Description
A long-distance trek through the Swiss Jura mountains.
The Jura Crest Trail, also known as the Crêtes du Jura or Jura High Route, follows an undulating limestone landscape of forests, ridges, and open stretches. The route connects Dielsdorf to Nyon on Lake Geneva. The book offers a continuous introduction to an area that provides a different kind of mountain walking than the more glaciated, higher parts of the Swiss Alps.
Fourteen stages from east to west.
The roughly 310-kilometre route is divided into 14 daily stages, naturally suited to around two weeks. You can also choose shorter sections and continue on a later visit. The stage division makes it easier to assess daily distances and overnight stops, providing a basis for adapting the trek to your preferred pace and the number of days available.
Maps and practical planning in one book.
Route descriptions and maps provide support along the way, while practical advice helps with preparation and execution. Nature, geology, and historical elements add to the experience of the trek. The guidebook is useful when you want to combine a clear long-distance itinerary with time to take in the landscape and places along the route, rather than each day being primarily about reaching the next overnight stop within a fixed schedule.
Moderate altitude still means long trekking days.
Ridges and plateaus involve repeated ascents, and poor weather can make open stretches demanding. Ordinary trekking fitness and planning are therefore important, even though the route does not have the same character as high alpine passes. The guidebook suits hikers who want a continuous trek through Switzerland and wish to use maps and descriptions together with up-to-date local information when finalising the details before departure.
A long tradition of hiking guides.
Cicerone has published guidebooks since 1969. The publisher grew out of a community of climbers and mountain people who wanted to share detailed knowledge of their routes – a tradition that still characterises the publisher’s books on walking, trekking, and other outdoor experiences.
