    Description

About the book. Lulu Mayo’s animal illustrations provide the basis for The World’s Cutest Animal Colouring Book from Lonely Planet Kids. The book combines pre-coloured patterns with black-and-white versions for the child to fill with colour. The publisher recommends it from age seven. There is space both to follow the examples and to try own combinations.

Content. The 22 animal motifs range from foxes, rabbits, and pandas to killer whales, blue whales, and sea turtles. Many of the figures feature playful clothing or details that give the patterns an imaginative expression. Each spread features a coloured example on the left and a version for own colouring on the right. At the back, there is a world map and short facts about the animals included.

Who is this book suitable for? Suitable for children who enjoy animal motifs, patterns, and an activity that can be done at their own pace. The colour examples can be used as support, but the child can also find entirely own colours. English animal names and facts provide something to read together along the way. Choose a tempting motif, bring out the colouring supplies, and let the book become a small creative break at home or on the journey.

Use and activities. Read the instructions together with an adult when English words require explanation, and let the child choose a task that seems exciting. Set up a small workspace and find what you need for the chosen activity before you begin. It is best to take one page or one project at a time, with time to try own solutions. Let the child explain their thinking, and use the illustrations as support when a task is to be understood. Feel free to switch between words, drawing, and other task types if the child wants variety or a short break. The activities can provide a starting point for conversations in Norwegian, even though the instructions and labels in the product are in English. It can be just as interesting to investigate a suggestion together as to finish all the tasks at once.
