Voluntary Guidelines for the Design, Construction and Equipment of Small Fishing Vessels, 2005 Edition is the official IMO publication containing voluntary international guidelines for the design, construction and equipment of small fishing vessels. The publication has been developed through a collaboration between the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
Smaller fishing vessels make up a large part of the world’s fishing fleet, but are often not subject to the same detailed international safety requirements as larger vessels. The guidelines have been developed to contribute to better safety, reduced risk of accidents and safer working conditions for fishermen around the world.
