The High-Speed Craft (HSC) Code, 2021 Edition contains the updated edition of the International Code of Safety for High-Speed Craft (HSC Code), developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The Code has been developed to address the particular safety challenges that arise when vessels operate at significantly higher speeds than conventional ships.
High-speed vessels place special demands on design, stability, propulsion, navigation and evacuation. At high speeds, reaction times to accidents and technical faults are reduced, making robust safety systems and strict operational requirements particularly important.
The publication describes requirements for vessel design, hull construction, machinery, fire protection, rescue equipment, navigation systems and operational procedures. The regulations also include requirements for certification, maintenance and training of personnel working on board high-speed craft.
The HSC Code is used by shipping companies, ship designers, shipyards, classification societies, maritime authorities and operators working with high-speed vessels. The publication is particularly relevant for passenger ferries, speedboats, catamarans and other vessels covered by the HSC regulations.
The 2021 edition contains updated provisions and consolidated amendments adopted by the IMO. The regulations serve as both a legal reference and a practical tool for companies involved in the design, construction, certification and operation of high-speed vessels.
