Description
The IMSBC Code, 2023 Edition (Amendment 07-23 ) is the official edition of the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes Code developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The publication sets out international requirements and procedures for the safe transportation of solid bulk cargoes by sea and is used by maritime operators, ships, terminals and ports worldwide.
The purpose of the IMSBC Code is to reduce risks associated with the transportation of bulk cargo that may affect the stability of the vessel or create dangerous situations during maritime transport. The regulations are designed to protect crew, vessels, cargo and the environment through standardized procedures for handling solid bulk cargoes.
The publication contains detailed requirements for classification, testing, declaration, documentation and safe handling of various types of bulk cargo. The regulations also describe requirements for loading, unloading, stowage and monitoring of cargo during transportation, as well as necessary precautions for cargoes that may be subject to liquefaction, self-heating or chemical reactions.
The IMSBC Code is used daily by ship officers, terminal operators, cargo planners, shipping companies and personnel involved in bulk transportation. The publication is particularly important for vessels transporting coal, ore, minerals, metal concentrates, grain products and other solid raw materials.
The 2023 edition includes Amendment 07-23, which contains updates and revisions adopted by the IMO to reflect new experiences, technical changes and developments in international bulk transportation. The regulations contribute to harmonized safety standards across the global maritime industry.
The publication serves as both a legal reference and a practical tool for companies involved in the transportation of solid bulk cargoes and compliance with international maritime requirements.
