    Description

“Hiking the Kungsleden ” is a comprehensive guide to one of Sweden’s most iconic long-distance trails. The book covers the entire Kungsleden trail from Abisko in the north to Hemavan in the south, and provides everything you need to plan and complete the hike—whether you want to hike the entire trail or just select sections.

The guidebook describes each stage in detail and includes clear maps, suggestions for alternative routes, day hikes from the STF cabins, and tips on sights to see along the way. A separate chapter is devoted to Kebnekaise, Sweden’s highest mountain, with advice on route selection and planning for those who want to combine the hike with a summit climb.

In addition to the route descriptions, you’ll find a thorough introduction to mountain hiking, information on geology, glaciers, vegetation, and wildlife, as well as practical advice that makes the book useful for both first-time hikers and more experienced mountaineers. Large photographs throughout the book provide inspiration and a good impression of the landscape you’ll encounter on your hike.

The book was written by Fredrik Neregård and Sam Hedman, two of Sweden’s most experienced guides in mountain outdoor recreation. Fredrik Neregård is a nature photographer and author of a number of popular guidebooks on topics including Sarek, the Nordkalottleden trail, and the Kebnekaise Mountains. Sam Hedman is a freelance photographer and writer based in Hemavan in southern Lapland, and has spent many years documenting the mountain regions of Swedish Lapland through books, magazines, and newspapers. Together, they combine in-depth local knowledge with practical experience and inspiring storytelling.

*Hiking in the Mountains Along the Kungsleden* was published by Calazo Forlag in 2025, has 312 pages, and is one of the most comprehensive guidebooks available for the Kungsleden.
