Description
IMO Model Course 1.03 – Advanced Training for Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations, 2016 Edition is the official IMO publication for advanced training in chemical tanker cargo operations. The publication has been developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to support the requirements of the STCW Convention for personnel working on board chemical tankers.
The manual is designed to ensure that officers and other key personnel have the necessary skills to handle complex and potentially hazardous chemical cargoes in a safe and professional manner. Advanced training in cargo operations is essential to reduce the risk of fire, explosions, spills and serious incidents during tank operations.
The publication contains detailed guidance on loading operations, unloading, tank cleaning, loading systems, safety routines, risk assessment and emergency procedures on board chemical tankers. It also describes the handling of different types of chemicals and important principles related to safe operation in maritime conditions.
The IMO Model Course 1.03 is used by maritime educational institutions, course providers, shipping companies and seafarers working with chemical tankers and STCW-related certification. The publication is particularly relevant for officers and personnel who will obtain an advanced certificate for work on chemical tankers.
The 2016 edition serves as both a training manual and practical reference work for companies working with chemical transportation at sea. The manual supports international requirements for training and competence in the safe handling of liquid chemical cargo.
IMO Model Courses have been developed to contribute to standardized maritime training at an international level and are used by maritime schools and training centers worldwide.
