IMO Model Course 7.16 – Ratings as Able Seafarer Engine, 2019 Edition is the official IMO publication for training engine personnel to achieve certification as Able Seafarer Engine according to the requirements of the STCW Convention. The publication has been developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to support standardized maritime education and competence development at the international level.
Able Seafarer Engine is an important part of the engine department on board and assists the engine officers with the operation, maintenance and monitoring of the vessel’s technical installations. The role requires both hands-on experience and a solid understanding of machinery, safety procedures and technical systems.
The publication provides guidance on the operation and maintenance of main engines, auxiliary machinery, pumps, piping systems, electrical installations and other technical equipment on board.
