IMO Model Course 7.15 – Electro-Technical Rating, 2019 Edition is the official IMO publication for the training of electro-technical personnel on board ships. The publication has been developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to support the requirements of the STCW Convention relating to the training, competence and certification of Electro-Technical Ratings (ETR).
Modern vessels are increasingly dependent on advanced electrical, electronic and automated systems. Electrical engineering personnel therefore play an important role in the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of the vessel’s technical installations.
The publication provides guidance on electrical circuits, motors, generators, control systems, automation, monitoring equipment and safe working practices on board. The manual also includes basic knowledge on maintenance, troubleshooting and handling of technical systems that are essential for safe vessel operation.
The IMO Model Course 7.15 is used by maritime educational institutions, training centers, shipping companies and seafarers working with electrotechnical systems on board ships.
