LC & Protocol Step-by-Step Guidance, 2020 Edition is the official IMO publication providing practical guidance on the implementation of the Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter, 1972 (London Convention) and the 1996 Protocol. The publication has been developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to support governments and organizations working to protect the marine environment.
The London Convention and the 1996 Protocol constitute the international framework for regulating the dumping of waste and other materials at sea. The purpose is to protect the marine environment from pollution through strict requirements for assessment, permits and control of activities that may affect marine ecosystems.
The publication provides a step-by-step review of how Member States and competent authorities can implement the regulations in practice.
