Lightweight and well-insulated sleeping mat with DownWool®

Grüezi Bag DownWool Mat Trekking is designed for trips where low weight, compact pack size and good insulation against the cold ground are important. The sleeping mat combines two separately inflatable air layers with integrated DownWool® insulation and heat-reflective foil.

Weighing only approximately 750 g, with a pack volume of around 4.6 litres and an R-value of 3.9, this sleeping mat is particularly well suited to trekking, hiking and other outdoor activities where you want good insulation without carrying unnecessary weight.

Two separate air layers for comfort and added safety

DownWool Mat Trekking is constructed with two separately inflatable air layers. Each layer has its own valve and can be adjusted independently.

The lower air layer can be inflated more firmly to provide stability and good separation from the ground, while the upper layer can be kept slightly softer so that the body sinks more comfortably into the sleeping surface.

The double-layer construction also provides an additional safety reserve. If one layer loses air, the second layer remains usable. This makes the mat less vulnerable than designs that rely entirely on a single air layer.

8 cm thick with a stable V-chamber design

The mat is 8 cm thick, providing good separation between the body and the ground. It also offers enough depth for the upper air layer to be kept relatively soft without the body being pressed down against the layer below.

The V-shaped air chambers help create a stable sleeping surface, while raised side chambers provide additional support along the edges and help reduce the tendency to slide off the mat during the night.

DownWool® insulation with down and wool

A key part of the construction is the integrated layer of DownWool® fleece. The insulation consists of 70% down and 30% wool and is permanently integrated into the sleeping mat.

The DownWool® fleece has a fill weight of 100 g/m² and complements the insulation provided by the air chambers. The combination of down and wool contributes to even heat distribution across the sleeping surface and helps minimise cold spots.

Because the insulation layer is firmly integrated into the construction, it remains evenly positioned and provides consistent insulation across the mat.

Heat-reflective foil

In addition to the DownWool® insulation, the mat uses heat-reflective aluminium foil. This helps reduce heat loss to the cold ground and forms part of the overall insulation system together with the air chambers and DownWool® fleece.

R-value 3.9

DownWool Mat Trekking has an R-value of 3.9. The R-value describes the thermal resistance of an insulating sleeping mat. The higher the value, the more effectively the mat reduces heat loss to the cold ground.

Grüezi Bag recommends DownWool Mat Trekking for use down to approximately −10 °C.

Actual comfort will also depend on factors such as your sleeping bag, clothing, the ground surface, humidity and individual sensitivity to cold. For winter use, the R-value should therefore always be considered together with the rest of your sleeping system.

Mummy shape for lower weight and pack volume

DownWool Mat Trekking features a mummy-shaped design that reduces unnecessary material towards the foot end, helping to keep both weight and pack volume down.

At the same time, the mat provides ample space around the shoulders, giving you a comfortable sleeping surface without unnecessarily compromising freedom of movement.

Ultralight outer fabric

The outer material is made from ultralight 20D polyamide. This helps keep the overall weight down and makes DownWool Mat Trekking particularly suitable for trips where every gram and every litre of pack space counts.

Twister pump sack and repair kit included

The sleeping mat comes with Grüezi Bag’s Twister pump sack, which makes it easy to inflate the mat without blowing directly into the valves.

The same sack can also be used for compact storage and transport of the sleeping mat.

A repair kit for minor damage is also included, allowing small punctures to be repaired while travelling or out on a trip.
