Our own maps · made in Norway
Two views of the world.
So many possibilities.
Choose a familiar classic world map, or discover the world with countries and continents shown in their true relative sizes. Both ranges use updated map data and offer Norwegian or English labels and a choice of materials. Start with the map language and size.
The familiar view of the world
Classic world map
Countries, capitals and a wealth of detail. Terrain and ocean-floor shading add depth to a familiar world view, inviting you to discover places and plan your next journey.
Mercator projection. Areas near the poles appear larger relative to equatorial regions than they really are.
New · true relative areas
Equal-area world map
A fresh perspective on the world. Compare countries and continents without enlarging northern regions. A wide, decorative format for living rooms, meeting rooms and classrooms.
Eckert IV projection. Relative areas are preserved; shapes, distances and directions may be distorted.
All dimensions are width × height. Select a size to choose the material and optional frame. Available finishes, current prices and delivery information are shown on each product page.
A map can change your perspective
Africa is bigger
than you might think.
On a Mercator map, Greenland can look almost as large as Africa. In reality, Africa is about 14 times larger. An equal-area projection shows those relative sizes more faithfully.
In September 2026, the UN General Assembly encouraged wider use of Equal Earth and other equal-area projections when comparing the sizes of countries and continents.
164 countries voted in favour. The Trump administration voted against.
The United States was the only country to vote no. A small change of perspective can clearly spark a big debate.
Our map uses Eckert IV, another equal-area projection that preserves true relative areas. No flat map can represent every property of the Earth accurately at once.
Explore the equal-area mapSource: UN report on the “Correct the Map” resolution. The resolution encourages equal-area maps; it does not mandate a single projection.

A little help choosing
Find the map
that suits you.
These differences will help you choose the right world map, size and finish.
What is the difference between classic and equal-area world maps?
The classic map uses the Mercator projection and has a familiar rectangular world view. Areas far from the equator are enlarged. Our equal-area map uses Eckert IV to show countries and continents in their true relative areas. Every flat world map distorts some properties.
Can I choose English or Norwegian map labels?
Yes. Kart.no’s classic and equal-area world maps are available with Norwegian or English place names. Choose the map language and size above. Map languages for other publishers’ products are stated in the descriptions and on each product page.
Which size should I choose?
Measure your wall space first and consider your viewing distance. Our classic maps range from 75 × 50 to 180 × 120 cm, and equal-area maps from 100 × 50 to 240 × 120 cm. Dimensions refer to the map itself; a frame may increase the overall size.
Are all maps available in every material?
The material options apply to Kart.no’s own world maps. Publishers’ posters, children’s maps, scratch-off maps and colouring maps are supplied in the sizes and finishes stated on their product pages. Options for our own maps may also vary by size.
One wall. A whole world of possibilities.
Where will you begin?
